Happy Fall!

Hey guys! Happy fall! I’ve been so busy lately, that I haven’t had much time at home. Recently I

went to Plymouth Plantation with my cousins! We learned so much! For example, did you know

Wampanoag men couldn’t wear long sleeves as they would get in the way? Instead, they would put

bear fat on their arms, which clogged up their pores. This would not let any of their body heat out,

which kept them warm. Also, did you know that when the Native Americans were sewing their clothes,

the used animal bones as needles and animal tendon as thread. Bone needles actually go through

leather and animal hide better then metal needles! Metal needles snap before they get through the

leather, while bone needles won’t. I also learned that Pilgrim children couldn’t go to school. The best

the adults could do was to homeschool them! I guess I’m carrying on the tradition of the pilgrims, huh!

We also visited Plymouth Rock! It was so amazing! I had a great time! I gotta go! Blog you later!

Today I watched a documentary called “Microcosmo,” about insects.  It is officially rated G, for general audience.  I do not agree, as it has some show of the insect reproduction system, and in my opinion should be rated PG, for parental guidance.  It has very little speech and is an almost a silent documentary.  3 things that I learned are the following.  1. Insects can seek refuge in flowers as they close up at night. 2. How spiders wrap up their prey in a mummy like wrapping.  3. How bees see the world in ultraviolet colors, with their compound eyes.  Something I really loved is, with the help of the cameras, how they put things that we could never see, or notice, in real life, into such vividness, you felt like you were an insect bystander.  Some of this amazing footage includes: a sundew eating an insect, a flower closing for the night, and an insect hatching out of its egg.  If I could change anything, I would give more identification to everything, as we have to guess the insects, and sometimes didn’t have the chance.

Book review #1: Woof

Today I start my first book review. Today’s review is on the book, and audio-book, Woof. Woof is an enjoyable book, it is written from the standpoint of a dog. I find I understand my dog better, even if it is fiction. It is high action, and would be a great read-aloud. Bowser and Birdie make the perfect duo, as forgetful Bowser, and his best friend Birdie, solve the mystery of the missing fish. WARNING: This book contains guns, including actual firing of the gun. If you or your child cannot handle guns, and the firing of them, do be warned.

I went to Sew Fun yesterday!  I went to a workshop and made an emoji pillow.  It was so cute!   I would recommend their workshops, though the classes and camps may be best for you.  I will definitely go back for more workshops, as they give beginning sewers a great start and the experts a good pattern and inspiration.  I would definitely recommend it to sewers, and wanna-be sewers. a

Today I went to Mass Audubon Broad Meadow Brook, for American Heritage Girls. My mom sponsored it. That makes me proud. We went on a hike, and played games, and found plants. My favorite part was playing with the turtle. He kept snapping at my fingers. I think that he thought they were worms. I would definitely recommend it, as an interesting, and educational, experience. It was a wonderful day!

Repeat Before Me (a modern day myth)

This is a myth I wrote based on the story of Echo from Greek mythology.  I hope that you enjoy this modern day myth. :-)

Repeat Before Me
Do you think talking is a challenge?  Do you think texting is hard?  I bet you think you have social issues.  But you don’t, that is unless you are like me, I can’t speak my own words.  I am cursed, and because of this, I can only speak the last words of people speaking to me.

It’s hard when the teacher asks me “will you please answer the question?”
And I reply “Answer the question.”

She doesn’t understand, and sends me to the principal’s office, and the principal sends me to detention.  Not that I have anything to do anyways, as I can’t say yes or no until someone else says it to me.  But this is how it happens:

They ask “Hey, want to play kickball?  We need you on our team”
“Our team” I reply.
They snap “Yes or no!”
All I can do of course is lament “No.”

I never get to do anything because of it!  Life as an echo is hard.

(To Be Continued.)
